Moving and Shaking at McIntire Elementary

So many wonderful things are happening at McIntire Elementary! We are well over 1000 positive referrals! Students go above and beyond being respectful, responsible and safe. Our negative behavior referrals are dramatically down from last year. Great job, McIntire students!

Just a reminder that Grandparents'/Special Friends' Day is this Friday, October 3rd from 1-3. This is a great way to experience a "day in the life" of a McIntire student. Please be sure to fill out the RSVP form that was sent home yesterday in Monday folders and return to school. Thank you!
Our 1000th and 1001st positive referral!
Our next McIntire Online Read Aloud is set for this Sunday, October 5th from 6:00-6:30. Invitations have gone out from Anymeeting.com. If you did not get an invitation or if you have others you would like me to invite, please email me at bhouf@fulton58.org. Don't forget to check your spam folder to be sure it wasn't delivered there by mistake. I am working to change the format to Google Hangouts via YouTube so that we can watch the read aloud live as well as record for those that are not able to join.

TeamingUp4Tech: Parent Technology & Learning Nights beginning at McIntire!

We are excited to announce the first Parent Technology & Learning Night which is a new monthly “21st Century Learning Series” designed to educate and connect parents and community members of McIntire Elementary School. The first event is being held on Thursday, October 23rd from 6-7 pm in the McIntire Library. We will then do an online read aloud from 7-7:30, to show those not familiar how to take part. The focus of the first event will be on digital safety. We will also explore the technology tools used as means of communication at McIntire, including Twitter, Facebook, blogging and online read alouds. This will be a hands-on, interactive session, so feel free to bring your favorite device. Chromebooks will also be available to borrow for the session. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends are all invited! Activities will be available in the gym for school age children. Looking forward to seeing you there!

High Levels of Learning for All!

High Levels of Learning for All!

September is a month of traditional goal setting and "New Year's Resolutions" in the education world. We take time to look at data from the spring as well as our current fall assessment to develop a plan for the year. Our staff began this process this week by reviewing data from the Missouri Assessment Program test and attendance data from the spring. There were areas of celebration. Students are making some growth from year to year. Our attendance  improved significantly last year as compared to other years. There were also areas where we can do betterStudent growth did not occur at the rates we hoped for or expected. Some are growing and others are not. When we looked at the data, we were not satisfied. We want ALL of our students to be on grade level. Not 70%, not 80%, not 90%, but 100% of our students should be at grade level or better  in reading, writing and math by the end of the school year. Our job is to give your children the best educational opportunities we can. I assure you we are working to do this.  In the next few weeks, I will be sharing specific strategies and data with you as we begin the work of making our goal a reality. Thank you for all you do to be a partner in your child's education!

September is Bully Prevention Month!

Mrs. Brunk and her fifth graders kick off our PBS assembly with a skit teaching our students how to "just stand up" against bullying. They offered great strategies for our students to use if they are faced with bullying behaviors. Great job to our fifth graders and Mrs. Brunk. We have OVER 650 positive referrals so far this school year! This is truly amazing! Our kids do an exceptional job of being safe, respectful and responsible everyday!

September News

Thank you so much for making the beginning of the year SHINE at McIntire School! I’m looking forward to a great year of living our mission of "High Levels of Learning for All!" In the first eight days of school we had almost 250 positive behavior referrals! McIntire students go above and beyond to be safe, respectful and responsible! Last week was a very tough week at our school as we learned of the death of one of our kindergartners. Thank you so much to parents and staff for the support provided during this time. Our kids truly amaze me with their kind hearts and resiliency through these experiences.

Check out these positive referrals! Great job!

I appreciate the feedback given regarding newsletters from the office. In order to help with communication between school and home, I will provide a monthly newsletter and calendar from the office for everyone in paper and then also post the information on this blog. I will also use the blog to showcase special events and pictures/videos of the great things happening at our school. I'll continue to email when the blog is updated.
McIntire expectations are at least 20 minutes of reading each night. Imagine the possibilities if kids read even more!

Mornings at McIntire
We have worked this year to open the doors a little earlier to help with congestion and give kids more time for breakfast. The doors will open to go to the gym at 7:40. There isn't supervision before this time, so please do not drop students off. We do have before and after school care available (BACPAC) if you need childcare options. Also, just a reminder that the bridge on F Hwy by Westminster will be under construction beginning September 7th. It should be finished after ten days. We do anticipate this slowing us down a little at arrival and dismissal, but we will work to adjust as much as possible. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

The End of the Day
Please make all transportation changes prior to 2:30 each day by calling the office at 590-8500 or sending a note with your child. All bus changes should be made through the transportation department at 590-8020. Please don't forget your hangtags for your cars if you are picking up students after school. Thank you so much for your help!
